Has he joined his ancestors??

It’s been a while since I’ve made a post, but don’t worry.  I haven’t joined my ancestors at the cemetery just yet!  I’ve been very busy not only with genealogy, but lots of other work.  I don’t know where some bloggers get all their energy, but I’ll be back soon with a bunch of crap you didn’t want to read in the first place!

I’m My Own Grandpa - Yet Another One

Yet another video illustrating one of the frustrations of genealogy.  This one appears to be a scene from The Stupids done with clips from Futurama.  I’d really like to know where people get this much free time…

Old Family Photos Survey

I read about this on the Genealogue and thought I’d pass it along.  Fiona Wilson is conducting a survey concerning the importance of old family photos in family history research as part of the research for her dissertation.  I’m sure many of you genealogists (i.e., BOTH of my readers) have photos of an appropriate age, so take a few minutes to complete the survey.

The Mother of All County Atlas Collections

While writing up my last post I decided to see what else was new in the world of land records on Ancestry and I found out that I REALLY NEED TO PAY MORE ATTENTION!!!  On June 24, 2007, Ancestry.com added a collection called U.S. County Land Ownership Atlases, c. 1864-1918.  This will make life so much easier!  I already have access to all the local atlases I need, but it can be difficult to find an obscure atlas from a state you’ve never been in.  This will help especially when I’m doing research for others.  Plus, it’s just plain interesting to go through old atlases.  If you don’t think so then you’re just weird…
