Genealogy and Politics

I’ve noticed this election that there’s been quite a few articles about the genealogy of political candidates, like this one about Sarah Palin, for instance.  I also wrote a bit about Obama’s genealogy (here and here) before. Now, I have to admit that I wasn’t paying much attention in the past, but have people always cared about the ancestry of the candidates? It is kind of interesting (especially to genealogists), but I just hope no one bases their vote on it!
