I’m a Dumb Genealogist!

As of this post, if you search for “dumb genealogist” (without quotes) in Google this site is the #1 result!  I’ve finally accomplished something!  Now, if only I could get up there for “dumbest genealogist.”

Land Records and Genealogy

I spent several years working for a land surveyor. During that time I learned a lot about land records and applied this knowledge to my own genealogical research. Using a combination of atlases, census data and local histories I was able to track down where my great-great-great-great grandfather lived from about 1815-1850. I was also able to find out where his sons had settled. This would have been near impossible without the atlas book (Mercer County, PA - 1873.) I have also discovered many other facts about where my ancestors lived and how they moved around the country.

Barack Obama’s Ancestor’s Were Slave Owners

We recently heard that Strom Thurmond’s ancestors owned Al Sharpton’s ancestors. Now it appears that Barack Obama’s white ancestors also owned slaves.

For anyone who has been living in a cave recently, Obama’s mother is a white American woman and his father is a black man from Kenya. According to a researcher, William Addams Reitwiesner, his mother’s ancestors owned slaves:
